GARDEN OF EDEN

Initially these photos came about through looking at a reflection of a person in a window in the context of their immediate surroundings; noticing the interesting effect that was created when the content of the interior merged with that of the exterior. The illusive nature of the body floating in the image has a supernatural element to it, that along with the greenery outside evoked something otherworldly. The added fact of the male torso, immediately became resonant of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The Male torso being a sculpture emphasises this, with its links to the ancient world and idea of 'artefacts'. It also presented a question surrounding the reality of an image - the male torso being an artistic manifestation of an image and the female body being a 'real' image. Yet the female body is not 'real' either, it's a reflection of a body in a window, therefore it encourages an analvsis of what we consider 'real'.
TORSO

Having explored the torso in the previous project, I was intrigued by the process of memorialising a living body part and how in doing this, it transforms a human body into a piece of art - so I made a plaster cast of a female torso. Making this presented an interesting question; are our bodies art in and of themselves or does it only become art in a painted, sculpted or drawn form? The pictures below with the residue of plaster, suggest that the body can become art when adorned in some way.
